- The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross has raised the alarm about the grave humanitarian crisis in Yemen. Peter Maurer, who just ended a three-day visit to the impoverished country, said Yemen is QUOTE crumbling under a deepening crisis which is nothing short of catastrophic.
- Saudi Arabia has once again bombed its impoverished southern neighbor, Yemen. The latest attacks have targeted Sa’ada and Ta’izz provinces. Earlier a woman and a child were killed in the bombardment of Hajjah province. Riyadh has been bombing Yemen for more than four months now, killing over 49-hundred people, mostly civilians.
- Iraqi lawmakers have unanimously approved Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's reform program aimed at curbing corruption and reducing government waste that has sparked widespread anger and weeks of protests. Earlier, top Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani called for drastic change in the war-torn country.
- Turkey's army says militants of the Kurdistan Workers Party have attacked a military base in the southeastern Shirnak province killing at least one soldier. The attack follows a day of violence, which left eight people dead. Earlier, Turkish warplanes conducted a new wave of airstrikes against PKK positions in Hakkari province.
- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says his country and Saudi Arabia have both agreed to help the Syrian government and opposition groups restart negotiations. His visiting Saudi Arabian counterpart Adel al-Jubeir also called for a political solution in Syria under the auspices of the United Nations.
- A US drone strike has left at least three people dead in Afghanistan’s Kunar province. Local officials say all the dead were militants. Washington has intensified its drone attacks in Afghanistan’s east and north. It claims the raids only target militants but there have been reports of civilian casualties, as well.
- Nearly 24-thousand Britons have signed a petition calling on the government to arrest the Israeli prime minister upon his arrival in the UK next month. The petition says Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested for war crimes. It criticizes Netanyahu for massacring over 2-thousand Palestinians in the Gaza war last year.
- A new opinion poll has revealed that the British Labour party's leadership frontrunner Jeremy Corbyn could win the upcoming election on the first round. 53 percent of those who took part in YouGov's poll supported the 66-year-old Corbyn. This puts him far ahead of his nearest rival, Andy Burnham with 21 percent.
