US presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders forced off stage by activists

Bernie Sanders was forced off the stage by Black Lives Matters activists.

Activists from the Black Lives Matter movement in the US have interrupted a speech by Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at a rally in Seattle.

The rally was held on the first anniversary of the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, who was shot to death by police in Ferguson, Missouri.

When Sanders took stage to give his speech, a number of Black Lives Matter activists interrupted him and stole his show by commemorating Brown’s death in front of a confused crowd.

“Bernie says that he’s all about the people and about grassroots, the biggest grassroots movement in this country right now is Black Lives Matter,” Marissa Johnson, one of the activists, told the attendees.

The unpredicted move caused Sanders to leave the stage and cancel his speech.

However, he issued a statement later in the day expressing his disappointment at not being able to address the rally.

“I was especially disappointed because on criminal justice reform and the need to fight racism there is no other candidate for president who will fight harder than me,” the statement read.

Sanders again addressed the subject in a second rally that was held on Saturday night for criminal justice and inequality issues, and said “black lives, of course, matter. I spent 50 years of my life fighting for civil rights and dignity. But if you don’t want me to be here, that’s ok. I don’t want to outscream people.”
