Iranian professional soccer player Alireza Jahanbakhsh has signed a contract with Dutch sports club AZ Alkmaar that plays in the Eredivisie, the highest professional football league in the Netherlands.
The 21-year-old winger of Iran men’s national soccer team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil signed a five-year contract with the Dutch club worth around two million euros (2.19 million US dollars) on August 3. He will undergo a series of physical tests on Tuesday.
On May 12, Jahanbakhsh was voted as the Eerste Divisie’s best player for the 2014-15 season, with 12 goals and 18 assists in the league.
The young Iranian soccer player had displayed an excellent performance in the 2014-15 season with Nijmegen Eendracht Combinatie (commonly known by its abbreviation NEC), and was voted as the best player.
The NEC became the champion of the Jupiler League on April 3. At the end of the 2014-15 season, Jahanbakhsh was selected by fans as NEC’s player of the season.
AZ Alkmaar finished third in 2014-15 season and booked a place in the Europa League’s preliminary round.
The team has claimed the Eredivisie twice, in 1980-81 and 2008-9 respectively. The Dutch outfit has also won the KNVB Cup in the Netherlands on four occasions.
