Mohammad Hossein Abareghi has secured the Islamic Republic of Iran a fourth quota place in the 2016 Summer Olympics athletics.
Abareghi's qualification followed commendable demonstrations at the 2015 edition of the international track and field tournament.
The 20-year-old sprinter claimed the 200-meter gold at the Almaty Central Stadium, Kazakhstan, with a running time of 20.47 seconds on Sunday. His compatriots Reza Ghasemi and Mehdi Zamani clocked 20.68 and 20.76 seconds respectively to earn silver and bronze.
On Saturday, Iranian sportsmen and women exhibited awe-inspiring displays at the sporting event, and secured places in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Hassan Taftian and Ghasemi clocked 10.10 and 10.12 seconds respectively in the tournament’s 100-meter race to land in the first and second positions.
Later in the day, Iranian female shot putter Leila Rajabi won an Olympic berth for the Islamic Republic with a winning throw of 18.04 meters.
Iran’s delegation in the tournament comprises of Reza Ghasemi, Hassan Taftian, Sajjad Hashemi Ahangari, Mehdi Zamani, Keivan Ghanbarzadeh, Mohammadreza Vazifehdoust, Vahid Seddigh, Ahmad Foroud, Leila Rajabi, Elnaz Company, and Mohammad Hossein Abareghi.
The games in Kazakhstan are being held in memory of in memory of Soviet sportsman Gusman Kosanov, who died in 1990 at the age of 55. He competed mainly in the 100-meter races.
