How can childhood trauma affect adults ?

Repeated exposure to traumatic events during childhood can have dramatic and long-lasting effects.

During the past 20 years, there has been an enormous increase in our understanding of how being repeatedly traumatized by violence affects the growth and development of pre-adolescent children, especially when such traumatized children lack nurturing and protective parents which might aggravate the impact of the trauma.

If you’v gone through a traumatic experience in your childhood, you may now be struggling with upsetting emotions, frightening memories, or a sense of constant danger. Or you may feel numb, disconnected, and unable to trust other people. When bad things happen, it can take a while to get over the pain and feel safe again. But with the right treatment, self-help strategies, and support, you can speed your recovery no matter the traumatic event happened years ago or yesterday.

In this episode of Press Plus, we are going to focus on childhood trauma and its effects on adults' function.
