Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the recent conclusion of Iran’s nuclear talks with world powers will enhance regional cooperation and stability in the Middle East.
"Contrary to the opinion of some in the region, the agreement will actually create regional security and stability, and increase cooperation among neighbors," Rouhani told Oman's Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said in a Friday phone call.
On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 group -- the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany -- reached a conclusion on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the Austrian capital Vienna following 18 days of talks over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Based on the conclusion, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for the removal of sanctions, including all economic and financial bans, against the Islamic Republic.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani expressed hope that "peace, stability and welfare would replace battle and bloodshed in the region."
The Iranian president also expressed concern over "the war and massacre in Syria and Yemen," adding that the crises will be resolved only through political means.
The ISIL Takfiri terrorist group has been wreaking havoc in the Middle East region, mainly in Syria, Iraq and Yemen. The Yemenis have also been under relentless bombardment by Saudi warplanes since late March. Tens of thousands of people have been killed due to the conflicts in the region.
Sultan Qaboos, for his part, congratulated Rouhani on the nuclear accord, saying, “The nuclear agreement is beneficial for the whole region and the world.”
"We hope that with Iran's aid, something can be done to end the crises in the region," he added.
