Press TV has conducted an interview with Paul Larudee, who is with the Free Palestine Movement from Berkeley, for his insights into Israelis’ decision to build a settlement, hotel and shopping center on a historical Muslim cemetery in Jerusalem (al-Quds).
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: Another settlement project, it seems that we’re seeing more intensification by the Israelis within a last year or two. Indeed, with the settlement units and yet do not hear the outcry in the way that perhaps we should from the overall international community. Why it is the case Sir?
Larudee: Well, you described it correctly. It’s an escalation and the fact that we’re not hearing an outcry means more of the same. It’s been like this year after year, month after month, decade after decade for as long as I was a child and I’m not young. And unfortunately, it will continue to go this way. This is their intention. They want to do ethnic cleansing. They’ve made small change. They’ve built a museum of tolerance on a Muslim cemetery in Jerusalem (al-Quds) perhaps it’s the same place and they’re expanding it. But building on Muslim cemeteries is a way of destroying Muslim culture and frankly it’s obviously a slap in the face. They would like to see some resistance from people who have very a few means of resistance and this will give them additional excuse for ethnic cleansing, which is the objective.
Press TV: Well, what will it take, Mr. Larudee, we’ve talked about this before and continues basically as we’ve said an exacerbation of the situation and deterioration overall of what is happening to the Palestinians. What is going to take to turn it around?
Larudee: It would help if Press TV could become the top news broadcaster in the United States and Western Europe. And it would help if we can reach the conscience of the vast majority of the population in the West that is subject to Zionist propaganda, because there are enough of good people in these countries, who with the right information will continue, but propaganda is a tool at which the Zionists are masters. And it takes I’m quite, I’m sincere about what I say, about getting Press TV to all of them. It’s not just Press TV of course. It’s also each of us using the internet and whatever and speaking directly to friends and neighbors and getting the word out. And I’m somewhat optimistic in that the change over the last decade, even maybe two decades, shows that it is possible to penetrate. We’re not there yet, but I have a feeling we will get there.
