Press TV has conducted an interview with Rick Staggenborg, a political commentator in Oregon, to discuss the rising tensions between Russia and the United States.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: What is going on? Are we on the edge of another Cold War between the US and Russia?

Staggenborg: Well, I think we are in a Cold War. The real threat is that it could go hot; and fortunately, Putin seems to have the cooler head here but I have got to tell you, looking at it from here in the United States, it looks like the people that are calling the shots here are crazy. So, there is no telling what this could lead to, it could lead to a nuclear war.

Press TV: Why would Washington want to agitate Moscow? We have seen time and time again since this Ukraine situation has occurred that it appears from the Russian perspective that they have tried to actually step back somewhat and try to de-escalate the tensions but whenever they have done that, it appears that even the United States directly or through their NATO representatives kept trying to up the ante. Why?

Staggenborg: Well, the simple answer is I think the dollar is about to crash and the people who are trying to call the shots in foreign policy in the United States are terrified that if they do not complete their plan to basically checkmate any resistance that the dollar is going to fall.

I do not know any other explanation for the crazy way that they are going about this.

I mean it is obvious from the Project for the New American Century (PNAC), a plan strategy for rebuilding America’s so-called defenses, that they are intending to take over the Middle East and then go to Russia and pivot it to the east with China.

They are doing all these things at once, destabilizing every country from Libya to Syria, to Iraq, to Lebanon, threatening Iran right and left.

If they were to succeed in the Middle East, Russia would be even more isolated and meanwhile they are barking on their borders by destabilizing Ukraine and with all these economic sanctions on all these countries it is insane because everyone of these is basically an act of war. It would be considered an act of war by the United States.
