Two hospitalized as man tries to break into US Air Force base

A C-130J prepares to land as another C-130J on the ground prepares for departure at Little Rock Air Force Base on May 20, 2015.

An “active threat” against an air force base in the US state of Arkansas has reportedly led to hospitalization of two people.

An armed civilian attempted to break into the Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas, located in Jacksonville some 24 kilometers northeast of Little Rock, at 9:15 am local time on Monday, reports said.

An “active threat occurred at the front gate”, read a press release from the base.

“The safety of base members and their families are of base leaders' utmost concern,” the statement added.

The suspect was one of the two injured while a bystander was also transported for non-related medical care and was released.

The incident was followed by a temporary lockdown at the base with the US media releasing footage showing first responders attending to the scene.

Meanwhile, the suspect was said to be in a critical condition.

"Base officials will continue to coordinate with Jacksonville Police Department, the Air Force Office of Special Investigation and the FBI," the statement said.
