Hamas condemns UN for excluding Israel from children’s rights violators list

(FILES) A picture taken on July 30, 2014 shows medics trying to resuscitate the body of a boy at a makeshift hospital following reported shelling by Syrian government forces on the central market of the rebel-held city of Douma, northeast of the capital Damascus. More than 76,000 people were killed in Syria

The United Nations’ refusal to include Israel in a list of children’s rights violators has angered Palestinians and human rights groups.Hamas Spokesman Fawzi Barhoum has denounced the UN decision to keep Israel off the List of Shame.

He says the decision will in fact encourage Tel Aviv to commit more crimes against Palestinian children and civilians. Human rights group, Defense for Children International Palestine, has also described the U-N decision as a deplorable move aimed at shielding Israel from accountability. UN diplomatic sources had earlier said Israel and its US ally have been lobbying hard against Tel Aviv’s inclusion in this year’s blacklist. According to the UN estimate, nearly 540 Palestinian children were killed in the Israeli war on Gaza last year.
