Israeli settler attacks in accord with Zionist policies: Analyst
Press TV has interviewed Alan Hart, an author and journalist based in London, to ask for his opinion on recent Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians.
What follows is a rough transcription.
Press TV: These vicious acts carried out by the Israeli settlers, they are wrong and inhumane on so many different levels. I like to get your opinion on what their motives are by carrying out such actions.
Hart: There is no mystery about this. The coming into being of the most right-wing racist [regime] Israel has ever had, and that is saying quite something, has given a new bright green flashing light to the settlers to do their worst. And what they are about doing, which is in accord with Zionism’s policy for Palestine, is simply to make life hell for the Palestinians in the hope that they will pack their bags and leave. What we are witnessing is nothing less than the ongoing process of ethnic cleansing and the governments of the major powers led by America are to be condemned and reviled, because by refusing to hold Israel to account, they are in effect complicit in this ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestine and frankly the Arab regimes are by the same token complicit. The Palestinians are completely on their own and the only weapon they have is their steadfastness. Simply by refusing to pack up and leave they are, for the time being, defeating Zionism’s total enterprise.
Press TV: So that pretty much explains why the Israeli settlers have this widespread impunity with regards to their actions. It is not accidental, it is not coincidental, it is quite rather systematic as for the Israeli regime when it comes to the actions of the settlers.
Hart: About a few days ago they celebrated the anniversary of Nakba; the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. Now when so many people write and talk about the Nakba, they assume that it is something that happened all those years ago and belongs to history. It only started in 1947. It has been a continuing process; today it is done, one can say, more slowly and by stealth; but it is the same ongoing process of ethnic cleansing.
