Tel Aviv backs settler attacks against Palestinians: Analyst

This file photo shows an Israeli settler throwing wine at a Palestinian woman in al-Khalil, the occupied West Bank.

Press TV has carried out an interview with Khalid Amayrah, a Palestinian journalist based in al-Khalil, to discuss Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians and their properties.

Press TV: Talk to us about this recent vicious Israeli settler attack on the Palestinian olive groves north of al-Khalil and also about the widespread impunity that the Israeli settlers enjoy with regards to these crimes.

Amayrah: Well yes, this is very true indeed. This is becoming a very worrying phenomenon; they have a sort of carte blanche to attack Palestinians and vandalize their property and burn down their olive groves. And the Israeli [regime] is doing absolutely nothing; on the contrary, the Israeli [regime], the Israeli military forces... cause the encouragement for the settlers to go on and on. This is becoming a very rampant phenomenon, and it is expected to increase following the formation of the most right-wing [regime] in Israel’s history.

Press TV: And also the issue of impunity, can you talk to us some more about that? When these crimes and a number of other crimes that are carried out by the Israeli settlers and by even Israeli forces against Palestinians, often mostly go ignored.

Amayrah: Yes indeed. The Palestinians submit complaints to the local civil administration offices and to the court but these complaints are almost totally ignored by the Israeli justice system, which itself is actually infiltrated by settlers. So the Palestinians are effectively complaining to judges who are also enemies of the Palestinians.
