Saudis, proxy warriors of US, Israel in Yemen: Analyst

Press TV has conducted an interview with Mark Glenn, a political commentator in Idaho, about international aid agencies condemning intense Saudi attacks against Yemen.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: The condemnation is finally pouring in of the Saudi atrocities that are being committed against the Yemeni people. How far though are these voices going to be heard?

Glenn: Well I am sure that they will continue to generate a lot of noise but whether or not they actually generate any tangible results is a big question. And I am very doubtful of that because of the fact that the Saudis are basically acting as the proxy warriors here, the proxy terrorists for the United States and Israel.

You know, the one question that we have not asked yet within the context of this discussion but which I think bears asking is whether or not these atrocities being perpetrated against civilians are being done to deliberately taunt Iran into some type of military action in order to stop the slaughter of fellow Shia Muslims.

And whether or not that this is the real goal in all of this, is to taunt Iran into some type of action that can then be used as justifying some type of military action against Iran, because other than that there is really no other way to explain for this up till now has been a terrorist war being waged against mostly civilians - women and children - and if we did not know any better we would think that these are images from Gaza that we are witnessing, and that the perpetrators in this case was Israel.

Press TV: So Mr. Glenn, right now it has also been seen as very ironic that Saudi Arabia has said that it will be coming up with that ceasefire agreement and then sending aid.

Do you find it at all ironic and contradictory that Saudi Arabia would bomb places in Yemen according to the news we have right now, 130 airstrikes in one location alone, and then it sends an aid to the people who have been killed or wounded by its own bombs?

Glenn: Well of course it is not just ironic, it is hypocritical. But then again we have to remember that Saudi Arabia has learned of all these tricks of the trade through her association with the United States and Israel.

Let’s keep in mind that a week or so though Israel was involved in this huge public relations campaign showing Israeli relief workers going to Nepal to help the people there after this devastating earthquake when [it] could have gone right next door in Gaza help the people there whose lives [it] had destroyed.

So Saudi Arabia has learned how to play the media game very well because she has had the best teachers in the world, meaning Israel and the United States, who are absolute masters at working up some magic spell in order to create an image of reality that does not exist.

Press TV: So right now Iran is also sending in an aid ship to Yemen to help the people over there, giving them much needed supplies. What do you think basically is going to happen as far as that ship is concerned because we did see how Saudi Arabia bombed an entire runway on its international airport to intrude the plane that was carrying aid did not land?

Glenn: Yes ..., what I am concerned about is that the Saudis or even the Israelis or the Americans - to be quite frank - doing something very dastardly against that aid ship and then blaming it on Iran or blaming it on the Yemeni Houthi fighters in order to create more of this public backlash against what is a people’s revolution.

We have to remember that this campaign against the Houthis is in effect a war against Iran. This is what really has gotten Netanyahu and other western leaders so worried in terms of Iran, is their influence in the region - that Benjamin Netanyahu referenced this in the speech to Congress that he made back in March.

He referenced Yemen and he referenced how Iran is gaining ground in the Middle East and this is what they are truly afraid of is that the Arab Spring which for the most part was an absolute failure, that is going to be replaced by the Persian Spring and the result of this is going to be a true repeat of the Iranian [Islamic] Revolution of 1979 throughout the entire region.
