Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo have stressed the promotion of cooperation between Tehran and Jakarta on all fronts.

Rouhani and Widodo met on the sidelines of the Asian-African Conference (AAC) in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, stressing closer cooperation between the two countries in different fields, especially in the economic sector.

The two presidents also held discussions on issues of mutual interest as well as regional and international developments.

Economic relations between Iran and Indonesia are not as developed as expected. Officials from both sides hope a potential final nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 countries which would see anti-Iran sanctions lifted, will also result in broader economic ties between the two nations.

Tehran and the P5+1 group -- the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and China plus Germany – had reached a mutual understanding on Iran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2.

Rouhani also met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, stressing that the Islamic Republic and Japan can work together toward the betterment of the situation in Middle Eastern countries.

The Iranian president also addressed a public session of the AAC, calling for a global fight against terrorism, and expressing the Islamic Republic’s readiness to cooperate with its neighbors, including Arab countries, in the anti-terror campaign.
