Palestinian Prisoners Day marked in Argentina

Dozens of social organizations and political movements gathered in Buenos Aires to mark the Palestinian Prisoners Day. Protesters marched through the main streets of the city holding placards against Israel and its apartheid policies towards thousands of Palestinians who are being held in appalling conditions in Israeli prisons without any criminal charge or legal proceeding.

Demonstrators compared the unjustifiable Israeli imprisonment of Palestinians with the illegal detention and torture of thousands of dissenters carried out by the Argentine military dictatorship between 1976 and 1983. They further say that politically motivated arrests are still a stark reality in some Latin American countries and many other places around the globe.

Members of social and political organizations from South America and Palestine also joined the demonstration and voiced their concerns.

The protesters expressed solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and called for the immediate release of thousands of political prisoners in Latin American countries and the US.

The Palestinian Prisoners Day and the International Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners have been observed in Argentina since 2005 and protesters say they will continue fighting for all those who are now silenced.
