Leader: Nigel Farage
The UK Independence Party, a Eurosceptic and right-wing populist, was founded in 1993 with the primary objective of securing the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union. The party had two members in the last parliamentary term in the House of Commons. Both seats were won in the 2014 by-elections which were held after two MPs resigned from the Conservative Party to join UKIP. The UKIP has increased its membership from 0.3% in 1997 to over 4% after 2010 elections. The party performed extra-ordinary during the 2014 European Union elections when it won 24 out of 73 UK seats.
