Former Black Panther Party leader and award winning journalist Mumia Abu Jamal, was convicted of murdering a police officer in 1982. Protests all across the world by individuals who believe he was innocent of the murder prevented his death sentence from being carried out. Among African-Americans and around the world, Jamal is held in high admiration.
Jamal is now serving a sentence of life in prison in Pennsylvania. Though Mumia Abu Jamal has been formally taken off of death row, protesters say the government is once again trying to take his life, this time through medical neglect.
When reports surfaced that Jamal was in poor health, protests erupted across the United States. The protesters believe this is a deliberate attempt to kill what they called a "political prisoner".
Protesters hope their efforts can again save his life, once again. Since reports of Jamal's condition surfaced last week, he has been moved to a different medical facility and has been visited by supporters. Protesters say they want Mumia Abu Jamal not only to receive proper medical treatment, but to be released from prison.
