Press TV has conducted and interview with Jamal Daoud, a spokesman for Social Justice Network in Sydney, to get his views on the anti-Islam PEGIDA group and their recent demonstrations in London.

Daoud says the anti-Islamic actions of PEGIDA have paved the way for other racist groups such as Neo-Nazis to join in and express support for this racist agenda. He believes the atrocities committed by ISIL and other terrorist entities are being used by PEGIDA supporters as an excuse to spread Islamophobia around the world.

Pointing to the group’s recent demonstrations in London and a number of Australian cities, Daoud says PEGIDA is in fact supported by certain parties seeking political gains. However, he adds, the group faces strong opposition and their rallies are usually countered by those of anti-PEGIDA demonstrators.

He concludes by criticizing Western governments for not taking proactive measures against the sources of racism and religious discrimination, which in turn helps groups like PEGIDA gain momentum.
