Incendiary dancing, the sounds of traditional instruments and oriental flavor - Nowruz has been celebrated in Moscow. "Meet the new day” as it is translated from Persian. Different national communities living in Russia came to greet the first day of the Persian New Year. The concert hall “Rossiya” turned into a colorful bazaar. On the stands of the former Soviet Union republics visitors could buy books, clothes, national costumes and taste traditional oriental dishes.

A big concert became the culmination of the celebrations. Bright colors and traditions of Iran and numerous Central Asian republics were as never as good as on this day. Many participants of the festival were nostalgic for Soviet times.

Meanwhile the residence of the Iranian Embassy held the celebration, where friends of Iran gathered on the occasion. Khorasan, a historical region in the northeast of Iran is the birthplace of Nowruz.

Famous Persian poets Ferdowsi and Omar Khayyam linked the emergence of Navruz with the names of legendary Persian kings Jemshid and Kayumurs.

Nowruz has historically been celebrated by people in the region regardless of their religious affiliations. It is widely celebrated in Persian and Turkish language speaking countries.
