Thousands walked down Rustaveli Avenue in the center of Tbilisi demanding the entire government to resign.

Leaders of the United National Movement, former ruling party, promise that series of protest rallies with an eventual goal to achieve government’s resignation and possibly early parliamentary elections will be held across the country.

Georgia’s ex-president and United National Movement chairman Mikheil Saakashvili, who is wanted by the Georgian authorities, addressed to protesters from Brussels. He said Georgia is being destroyed and this destruction must be stopped.”

Thousands turned out in the Freedom square today to openly demand the Georgian government to resign. This is the first rally calling for the government to step down since October 2012. However, it is yet to be seen if it paves the way for real change in the country.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili condemned UNM’s planned rally, having said that several thousand people gathered in Tbilisi by force and money and they cry for past and evil. However rally participants do not agree.

Thus the rally participants acted. The crowd walked to the government house chanting “resign” to showing symbolic red cards to the government.
