US wants presence in Afghanistan: Pundit

Press TV has conducted an interview with Mohammad Daoud Abedi, chairman of the Afghan National Peace Council from Los Angeles, to discuss the slow-paced withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

Abedi says foreign forces in Afghanistan have never been interested in preserving its national sovereignty or establishing a strong government in the country.

The security situation throughout Afghanistan has deteriorated to such an extent that NATO cannot secure the vicinity of its bases, Abedi adds.

The commentator notes that the US-led forces have always been seeking a pretext to prolong their stay in the country.

The United States and its allies want to stay in Afghanistan for the sake of their long-term strategic interests, Abedi argues.
