The role of the security services is under the spotlight. Allegations against the UK’s intelligence agencies and the significance of their role in radicalizing British Muslims is being scrutinized. Jihadi John now thought to be 27 year old Mohammed Emwazi was harassed by the security services prior to him joining ISIL.

Historically MI5 has been accused of blackmailing British Muslims in to joining the security services. Muslim community workers in 2009 said they were threatened by the security services with one being told unless he works for them he will be branded a terrorist.

Critics of the security services have questioned the manner in they have been operating. Concerns have been raised as to how Mohammed Emwazi, was able to make his way to Syria despite being on a watch list. Similarly three girls aged between 15 and 16, one of whom had been in contact to a known terrorist were able to also make their way to Syria without being questioned.

Revelations continue to come out against the security services, and it seems it is them who will now be under the spotlight.
