The 2016 presidential hopeful, Senator Rand Paul, has called on former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton to retire permanently, saying she pushed the United States into a war in Libya.
“It’s time for Hillary Clinton to permanently retire,” he said during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday.
“I believe Hillary Clinton’s abdication of responsibility, her refusal to provide adequate defense for Benghazi, her dereliction of duty should forever preclude her from high office,” he added.
The Kentucky Republican was referring to Clinton’s plans to run for president in 2016.
He sharply criticized “Hillary’s war in Libya,” saying the war “made us less safe. Libya’s less stable.”
On Sept. 11, 2012, four Americans, including US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, were killed during an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya. At least ten other Americans were wounded.
“As Hillary was declaring victory in Libya, Ambassador Stevens was pleading for more security. When I asked secretary Clinton if she’s read Ambassador Stevens’ cable pleading for help she answered curtly ‘no’ as if she had more important things to do,” the senator said.
New documents earlier this month revealed that Clinton and her top aides were aware the American consulate in Benghazi was under attack from the very first moments of the terrorist attack.
