These doctors and medical engineers have gathered to discuss the latest developments in the one of the most sensitive areas of medical surgery. They have attended the 13th international congress of the Iranian society of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons.

The event is an opportunity for specialists to find out about new methods and innovations in the treatment of oral diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face and jaws.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is divided into many categories. Dr. Abbas Karimi, Chairman of the congress says that Iran is turning into the regional hub for the treatment of oral and facial defects in the Middle East.

More than 15 specialists from the United States, Belgium, France, Germany, Mexico, Portugal, Turkey and South Korea are present in the event to share their experiences with Iranian doctors.

Dr. Sylvie Testelin is a member of a team of doctors who conducted the world’s first partial face transplant in 2005.

During recent years a number of Iranian science based companies have transferred some of the latest technologies for manufacturing oral and facial prosthesis to Iran. These products are more accessible to doctors and less costly for patients. According to doctors today the majority of Iranian patients in need of complicated oral and facial surgeries no longer have to worry about receiving treatment in their country.
