President of the Democratic Republic of Congo Joseph Kabila has announced a revised election law that requires a census to take place before the next election, a move that opposition leaders say could delay the vote by years.

Opposition parties have called for mass demonstrations against the new electoral bill being debated in the Senate.

President Kabila has been in power in the last 14 years. This edition of Africa Today addresses the issue of democracy in the country.
