Jordan’s King Abdullah II has vowed that his country will retaliate the killing of its pilot by the ISIL in the most severe manner.
Abdullah said Wednesday that the response by his government and army to the killing of airman, Moaz al-Kassasbeh, would be severe.
"The blood of martyr Moaz al-Kassasbeh will not be in vain and the response of Jordan and its army after what happened to our dear son will be severe," said Abdullah upon arriving in Amman after a shortened visit to the United States.
Jordan hanged two ISIL militants earlier Wednesday in response to the group’s burning to death of Jordanian hostage pilot. However, the government in Amman still seems to be under huge pressure to show a proper response to ISIL’s cruel killing of Kassasbeh.
Jordan is also part of the US-led coalition which has carried out airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria since September. Many say Jordan’s participation in the air raids is mainly to blame for the recent tragedy.
The killing of Kassasbeh has drawn huge condemnation from across the world, particularly among Muslims.
ISIL claims to implement a strict interpretation of the Islamic law, but many deny that, saying the group uses such claims to cover up its harsh, inhumane activities. The group, which now controls swathes of lands in Syria and Iraq, has been involved in a series of heinous crimes against civilians and government forces in the two Arab countries.
Egypt’s al-Azhar university, one of the most respected seats of learning in the Muslim world, issued a statement after Kassasbeh’s killing, saying that ISIL militants should be crucified and their limbs chopped off for committing such acts.
Another renowned Egyptian Mufti, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who is based in Qatar said that the crime committed by ISIL runs contrary to Islamic Sharia law.
ISIL released a video late Tuesday showing Kassasbeh being torched to death in a cage. The highly choreographed video is the latest in series of footages released by the group showing the killing of various hostages captured by the Takfiri terrorist group.
