Every year the Persian language olympiad is held at the Moscow State University, its famous faculty of Asian and African studies. A 21-year-old student from the Russian capital has been declared the winner of this year's Persian language and literature olympiad. The competition was held for the 11th time. This year it could absorb the best students from Russia, all studying Persian language at universities and linguistic institutes.

The students, learning Persian language, passed various contests testing their knowledge, such as reading, grammar, writing skills and poems recitation. The competition aims to evaluate the quality and educational standards of Persian language and literature.

The contest participants were awarded with honorary prizes and diplomas, which were presented by Iran's Ambassador to Russia and the country’s Cultural Attaché. The two officials gave speeches during the event and spoke of importance of cultural ties between two countries.

Since the Soviet times, the number of students, who chose to study Persian language, have continuously increased. The judges of the Olympiad say Persian language knowledge among Russian students corresponds to the rise in the number of those interested in learning it. Such students will be able to use the knowledge in any industry they choose to work in later.
