A court in Afghanistan has sentenced a man to death and two others to prison on charges of killing two foreign aid workers on duty in the war-torn country.
On Sunday, police spokesman in the western province of Herat, Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, confirmed that the provincial court sentenced the killer, identified as Farhad, to death.
The aid workers, two Finish women working for the Christian humanitarian group International Assistance Mission (AIM), were shot dead by unknown gunmen inside a car in the western city of Herat in July 2014.
According to the court ruling, one of the accomplices was given five years in prison while the second was given two-and-a-half year terms.
No connection has yet been confirmed between the three arrested and pro-Taliban militants.
AIM has 500 Afghan staff and 50 foreigners from Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania offering aid to war-struck Afghans.
They have offered a wide range of humanitarian aids in the country since 1966.
