A senior adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has congratulated the Iraqi government and people on the successful parliamentary elections, saying "no foreign power can interfere" in determining the country’s destiny.
In a message issued following Iraq’s recent elections, Ali Akbar Velayati praised the Iraqi people for holding “passionate, healthy, and peaceful elections” and highlighted the country’s political and social maturity.
He called the elections a “valuable model among the countries of the region.”
Iraqis voted for a new parliament on Tuesday. The Independent High Election Commission announced that a total of 12,003,143 nationals, out of 21,404,291 eligible voters, cast their ballots.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei on Thursday congratulated the people and government of Iraq on the successful holding of parliamentary elections.
Baghaei described the increased voter turnout and the calm conduct of the polls as valuable, expressing hope that the vote would further strengthen unity, security and progress in the neighboring country, according to the Foreign Ministry statement.
Velayati also extended his sincere congratulations to the “patient, brave, and resilient people of Iraq” for their “great and unprecedented victory in determining the fate of their country and playing an effective role in the future of the region.”
He emphasized Iraq’s historical significance, noting that the country, with a history spanning over five thousand years, is a cradle of human civilization.
The advisor highlighted Iraq’s role in the development of Islamic civilization, noting that the country has been a center of scientific and cultural advancement for centuries.
Velayati stressed that all Iraqi communities—including Shias, Sunnis, and Kurds—show great concern for protecting these sacred sites, and emphasized that “no foreign power can interfere in determining Iraq’s destiny.”
Describing the elections as a historic achievement, Velayati said they demonstrate that the Iraqi people are the true heirs of their great civilization and reaffirm the country’s independence in shaping its future.
He reiterate Iran’s ongoing support for Iraq’s sovereignty and the strengthening of bilateral relations rooted in shared heritage and faith.
“Undoubtedly, a bright and prosperous future awaits the cooperation between the two brotherly nations,” he stated
