IAEA chief in Tehran
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency says the organization seeks to play a positive role in the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the UN
Rafael Grossi made the remark while visiting an exhibition showcasing Iran’s nuclear achievements along with Iranian nuclear chief, Mohammad Eslami in Tehran. Grossi said he was very impressed with the achievements which allow Iranians to reap the benefits of nuclear science in medicine and energy, among other fields. The IAEA chief arrived in Tehran on Wednesday on a two-day visit ahead of the second round of indirect Iran-US talks. On Wednesday, Grossi met with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi who said he had a useful meeting with the International Atomic Energy Agency chief. Araghchi called on the IAEA chief to distance the agency from politics and spoilers seeking to derail the current negotiations. Delegations of Iran and the US are to gather in Rome on Saturday for a second round of Omani-mediated negotiations.
Gaza rising death toll
Israel continues its devastating assaults on Gaza, causing further loss of Palestiniaisrael n lives in the besieged territory. At least 27 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air raids across the Gaza Strip. 21 were killed in Gaza City and the northern areas. The deadliest attacks targeted tents housing displaced people in northern Gaza and the city of Khan Yunis. Israeli warplanes also targeted a UN-run school sheltering displaced people in Jabalia refugee camp. The latest fatalities brings the death toll to nearly 51,100 people since October 2023. The Israeli occupation forces resumed their offensive against Gaza on March 18, breaking a two-month ceasefire. The United Nations says around 500-thousand people have been displaced over the past month only.
"Israel not secure"
Yemen’s Ansarullah leader says America's weeks-long airstrikes on the Arab country have failed to restore the movement of Israeli ships in the Red Sea that's a big defeat for Washington. Abdul-malik al-Houthi says US attacks have hit many civilian targets but failed to impact Yemen’s military capabilities. He said the scale and momentum of Yemen's anti-Israel operations prove the failure of the US in harming Yemen’s military power. The official added that the US wants the whole Muslim community disarmed, and devoid of any means of protection. He dismissed proposals to disarm the Palestinian resistance as illogical and ridiculous. The Yemeni Leader stressed it is a religious, humanitarian, and moral duty of all Muslims to take action to support Palestine.
