Gaza ceasefire deal

Media reports suggest that there is progress in efforts to salvage the Israel-Hamas Gaza ceasefire deal to ensure a captive-prisoner exchange. Hamas resistance movement says it is committed to conduct the sixth exchange of prisoners on time, on Saturday if Israel honors its commitments. Israel has reportedly promised to put in place a humanitarian protocol starting from this morning. This comes after Hamas announced that it would postpone the exchange due to Israeli violations of the deal. Hamas has dismissed the US and Israeli threats about resuming the Gaza war if all the captives are not released by Saturday noon.

Targeting journalists

Israeli attacks on Gaza have significantly contributed to making 2024 the deadliest year for journalists in recent history. The Committee to Protect Journalists has reported that last year marked the highest number of journalist fatalities. At least 124 journalists were killed worldwide, 70 percent of which were attributed to Israel. The Israeli onslaught on Gaza resulted in at least 85 journalists being killed. The committee is investigating 20 additional cases of potential targeted killings in the besieged territory. The Gaza Government Media Office says the death toll is even higher. According to the media office, Israel has killed at least 205 journalists in Gaza.

Israel West Bank aggression

The International Federation for Human Rights has raised the alarm about forced displacements in the occupied West Bank, as Israel continues its violent military operation there. The rights organization reported that Israel’s “Iron Wall” operation has led to the displacement of 45,000 Palestinians in the north of the occupied territory, calling for serious global pressure on Israeli authorities to put an end to deadly campaign. It said the current situation in the West Bank is the worst since the second Intifada. The international NGO highlighted that the Israeli occupying forces have employed extremely brutal methods to empty refugee camps, including destroying Palestinian houses and infrastructure and using aerial attacks to kill Palestinians.
