A young Palestinian man has been shot dead by Israeli military forces in the southern part of the West Bank, as weeks of violence continue to grip the occupied territory amid the Israeli army’s deadly raids.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA, citing local sources, reported that Israeli forces stormed the al-Arroub refugee camp on Sunday, and deployed a number of snipers on the roofs of some houses and buildings.

Israeli forces then fired live rounds and teargas canisters at the citizens. A number of people sustained gunshot wounds, while many others suffered breathing difficulties due to inhaling tear gas fired by the Israeli soldiers.

The sources said 27-year-old Mohammad Amjad Haddoush, a first Sergeant in the Customs Police Authority, was struck with a live bullet in the abdomen, and seriously injured.

Haddoush was rushed to nearby Beit Fajjar Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Clashes broke out between Israeli forces and locals in the camp after the announcement of the martyrdom of the Palestinian youth. At least four young men were shot and injured in the lower limbs. They were subsequently transferred to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Abdul Hai Jawabra, an activist in the al-Arroub camp, said Israeli incursions into the camp have notably intensified in recent weeks.

He further explained that Israeli forces have reinforced their blockade of the main and secondary entrances to the camp, severely hindering residents' access to medical centers and hospitals outside.

The West Bank has experienced heightened tensions as a result of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza that began in October 2023 and led to the death of at least 47,498 individuals and injury of 111,592 others.

A ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement went into effect in Gaza on January 19, halting Israel's aggressive campaign against the coastal region.

Since last October, more than 900 Palestinians have been killed across the occupied West Bank in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers.

At least 25 Palestinians have also been killed in the northern West Bank city of Jenin since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect in Gaza. Dozens of injuries, detentions and forced evictions of families have taken place during the period as well.
