The Iran women’s national under-16 football team has finished its campaign at Division B of the Fédération internationale de basket-ball (FIBA) U-16 Women's Asian Championship, and stood fourth at the conclusion of the continental competitions.
The Iranian team, which had lost the semi-final showdown 68–85 to Malaysia the previous day, conceded a 61-47 defeat (7–17, 14–16, 15–14 and 11–14) to Kazakhstan in the third-place game at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in the Indian city of Bangalore on Saturday.
Fatemeh Ghazvini netted 20 points and was named Iran’s top scorer. Alexandra Komarova recorded 17 points on board for Kazakhstan.
Iran started the competition with an 89-32 win over Nepal, but lost to India 97-53 in its second match.
Iran downed Sri Lanka 84-76 in the third fixture, before beating the Maldives 129-30 to book a place in the semi-finals.
The 2017 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship for Women was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2018 FIBA Under-17 World Championship for Women.
