Iran beaten by Angola in FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2017

The Iran men's national under-19 basketball team has posted its third straight defeat at the preliminary round of the Fédération Internationale de Basket-ball (FIBA) U19 Basketball World Cup 2017 in Egypt, falling to Angola.

On Tuesday, the Iranian squad lost to the Southern African team 48-70 at the end of its Group D campaign at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex.

Angola’s 18-year-old Silvio De Sousa scored with a game high of 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Amirhossein Azari had 15 points and one rebound for Iran.

The Iran men's national under-19 basketball team, which had earlier slumped to the United States 48-108 and Italy 45-64 in its previous group stage encounters, is scheduled to face Spain in the tournament’s Round of 16 on Wednesday.

The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2017 kicked off in Cairo, Egypt, on July 1, and will conclude on July 9.

The Iranian outfit joined squads from Angola, Italy and the United States in the group stage of the tournament.

France, New Zealand, South Korea and Argentina formed Group A in the event.

While the host nation Egypt, Germany, Lithuania and Puerto Rico competed in Group B, young Canadian sportsmen took on counterparts from Japan, Mali and Spain in Group C of the event.
