Iran's president expresses gratitude to Ayatollah Sistani for his support amid US-Israeli aggression

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed gratitude to Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani, Iraq’s most senior Shia cleric, for his generous support toward the Islamic Republic and those affected by the US-Israeli aggression.

In an Arabic message posted on his X account on Monday, President Pezeshkian lauded the religious authority’s longstanding solidarity with the Islamic Republic.

“I extend the highest expressions of gratitude for the generous support extended by His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyed al-Sistani toward the Islamic Republic of Iran and those affected by the recent aggression, while appreciating the solidarity of the brotherly people of Iraq,” Pezeshkian said in his message.

The president said the religious authority has consistently remained “an impregnable fortress and a steadfast pillar” for the oppressed around the world.

He also extended his appreciation to the brotherly people of Iraq for their solidarity with Iran during a time of crisis.

The criminal US-Israeli aggression against Iran began on February 28, with airstrikes that assassinated the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and other senior officials.

Iranian armed forces responded with 100 waves of powerful retaliatory missile and drone strikes against US and Israeli interests across the region.

Ayatollah Sistani strongly condemned the US-Israeli war on Iran.

“We use the strongest words to condemn this oppressive war and call on all Muslims and freedom-seekers of the world to condemn it and show solidarity with the oppressed nations of Iran and Lebanon,” he said in a statement early in the war.

The senior Shia cleric also dispatched a team to Iran to assess the damage and provide assistance.

Ayatollah Sistani also called on countries and influential actors around the world, as well as Muslim states, to do their utmost to help stop the aggression.
