Istanbul's recently elected mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, put hundreds of cars rented by the previous Justice and Development Party (AKP) administration on display in the Turkish city's Yenikapi square on Friday, in order to highlight what he regards as wasteful spending by his predecessors.
Imamoglu, of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), had promised to display the vehicles after his election in June.
The multi-million lira rental contract for the vehicles was reportedly signed by the previous administration in 2019 with a company that is alleged to have links to the ruling AKP.
