Iran warning
The Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Major General Mohsen Rezaei, warns that any new aggression against Iran will be met with a devastating response.
In a social media post, Rezaei also mocked the US administration following the midterms, in which Democrats won control of both the House and Senate. He said Trump lost the war, his Vice President has conceded defeat and his secretary of state is leaving. The top Iranian security official also said Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth is now about to be fired as well. His remarks followed a recent warning by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei that any new aggression against Iran would trigger an immediate and effective response, with no geographical limits.
Gaza humanitarian crisis
Palestinian resistance movements Hamas and Islamic Jihad have condemned the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, holding Israel and the international community responsible for the suffering of displaced Palestinians.
In separate statements, the two movements said the devastation caused by heavy rainfall exposes the dire conditions facing Palestinians. Hamas said their suffering will remain a permanent stain on the conscience of an international community unable to stop the Israeli aggression or lift the siege on Gaza. The Islamic Jihad warned that Israeli forces are also firing at displacement camps, putting civilians’ lives at risk. It called for the immediate delivery of prefabricated homes, repairs to water and sewage networks, and the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials. The statements come as heavy rain has flooded Palestinian displacement tents and destroyed families’ belongings and food supplies in the war-ravaged territory.
France anti-govt. protests
In France, fresh protests have drawn tens of thousands of people to the streets in the capital Paris and other cities across the country. Students, activists and unions took to the streets for another day of protests, with the Yellow Vest Movement holding separate rallies despite a ban by authorities. Protesters demand higher wages, additional recruitment and better services, while they support student protests for better education conditions. They slammed the rising cost of living in the country and called for the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron. Police blocked the city centers following orders that ban demonstrations. France’s Interior Minister says 70,000 security forces have been deployed across the country. France has been the scene of demonstrations since early September.
