Ashura mourning
Millions of Muslims in Iran and other countries worldwide are holding ceremonies to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam and a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Every year, black-clad mourners mark the occasion by holding massive processions and ceremonies at mosques, religious centers and on the streets. During the first ten days of Muharram, Shia Muslims commemorate Imam Hussein, and his devoted companions who were killed by tyrant Yazid in Iraq's Karbala in 680 AD. The ten-day period serves as a reminder of the Imam's legacy including self-sacrifice and resistance against oppression. The occasion reaches its climax on the day of Ashura with millions attending the ceremonies in a profound display of grief, devotion, and unity.
US-Israeli Gaza genocide
The Israeli war machine continues its genocidal campaign in Gaza, killing and injuring more Palestinians across the territory. Since the early hours of Saturday, Israeli attacks have claimed the lives of over 70 Palestinians across Gaza. In the most recent attack, a regime drone strike targeted a cafe in central Gaza, killing six Palestinians. Before that, Israeli forces bombed a gathering of Palestinians in Nuseirat refugee camp, killing at least eight people, including children. The humanitarian situation in Gaza also continues to deteriorate as another Israeli airstrike targeted a water desalination plant in Gaza City, killing more Palestinians. The death toll from the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza has now risen above 57,300 with over 135,000 more wounded since October 2023.
Gaza resistance
A Gaza-based resistance group has released new footage showcasing its latest operations against intruding Israeli forces and how it deal them heavy losses in the territory. The video shows fighters from al-Quds Brigades, which is the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, planting and detonating explosives close to an Israeli tank. The group also showcased the Israeli drones captured while on spying missions. The regime has confirmed that three of its soldiers were killed in the latest ambush by resistance fighters in Gaza. Over the past few weeks, the regime’s casualties have risen as Hamas and Islamic Jihad escalated their resistance operations. Despite Israel’s claims of weakening the resistance, nearly two years into the Gaza genocide, fighters continue to inflict heavy losses on the regime.
