Furious students have gathered outside the London School of Economics on Tuesday to condemn the University after its debate society invited Israel's UK Ambassador to speak at an evening event.
The University claims the event is meant to "encourage discourse about the Middle east" but a large number of Muslim and pro-Palestine students are having none of it.
These students are not just angry at the Israeli Ambassador's presence but their fury is also aimed at the University. They claim that by inviting the Ambassador here they are essentially hosting racism and Islamophobia".
Appointed in 2020, Israel's Tzipi Hotovely has been condemned over past comments she made targeting Arabs and Islam. She once reportedly denied Palestine’s existence and famously said the Nakba was "a great Arab lie."
Despite the backlash and a walkout staged by students inside the debate hall, the talk went ahead. The Palestinian Ambassador will also speak but at a separate event on the 11th November but that hasn't been enough to calm the students’ anger.
