Russia campaign against Daesh praiseworthy: Iran commander

A top Iranian military commander has lauded Russia’s campaign against Daesh Takfiri terrorists as a “praiseworthy” move, calling on other countries to follow Moscow’s suit in seriously battling terrorism.

“The courage and wisdom of Russian leader Vladimir Putin to [adopt] practical measures to quell the scourge of Daesh is praiseworthy and an honorable move for the Russian people,” Iranian Armed Forces' Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said on Monday.

He added that Moscow’s anti-Daesh campaign indicates that the Russians have a “far-sighted” leader who has well realized threats of terrorism, nurtured by imperialism, Zionism and reactionary regimes, to Russia’s national security.

The Iranian commander warned that the danger of Daesh terrorists operating in Syria and Iraq can spill over to other Muslim countries as well as European states, expressing hope that regional countries and those nations suffered from terrorism will make a serious decision about fighting “blind terrorism.”

Russia has been conducting airstrikes on positions of Daesh and other terrorist groups in Syria at the request of the Syrian government since September 30.
