Certain Western countries as well as reactionary Arab states resort to different methods to silence the voice of the resistance front, says a top executive at Iran’s state radio and TV.
Among the methods used by those countries is to boycott the media affiliated with resistance movements, said Mohammad Akhgari, the director of the World Service of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Broadcasting (IRIB), at an international conference on fighting Takfiri terrorism held in the Syrian capital of Damascus.
In his speech, Akhgari touched upon the West’s record of seeking to paint an unreal picture of pure Islam, saying, “These countries are really scared of information dissemination and promulgation by resistance [movements] because these media mirror realities transparently and expose the West’s hegemonic states.”
The IRIB vice-president said war in the battlefield is an arduous task, adding the soft media war today is as tough.
“Takfiri terrorist groups have taken up demagogic methods to sway public opinion, and today the West is trying to incorporate Takfiri terrorism into soft news techniques to target the Islamic identity,” Akhgari stated.
He said Takfiri groups cash in on religious names or holy verses such as “There is no god, but Allah” to win credit among Muslims while tarnishing the image of Islam by committing heinous crimes.
The IRIB vice-president underscored the need to spot the destructive tactics and techniques used by Western media while disseminating information clearly in a bid to wipe Western-instigated ambiguities off Islamic concepts.
The international anti-terrorism gathering opened on Friday, bringing together over 130 media figures from different countries.
Delegates to the two-day event are discussing the roles of “committed” as well as the enemy’s “mercenary” media in reflecting developments, how the media influence public opinion, the process of news coverage, the role of media in current conflicts and the importance of field reporting, among other things.
