Slamming anti-Iran threats
Iran has vehemently condemned the ‘brazen threats’ posed against Tehran by the United States and Israel, including the US president’s threat to use the so-called “mother of all bombs” against the Islamic Republic. Iran's UN ambassador made the comment in a letter to the UN chief and the president of the Security Council. Gholam-Hossein Darzi said these relentless threats began in the context of the US-Israeli wars of aggression against Iran, and are a prelude to further violations of international law, with catastrophic humanitarian consequences for regional peace and security. Darzi stressed that the US and Israel, as well as anyone else who directly or indirectly supports their act of aggression and state terrorism, are responsible for all the consequences of such threats. He urged the UN and Security Council to force the US and Israel to immediately end their illegal threats and fully comply with their obligations under the UN Charter and international law. Darzi reaffirmed Iran's determination to take all necessary measures against any source of threat that endangers its people, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and vital national interests.
EU anti-Iran accusations
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned Ireland’s ambassador to Tehran, Aidan Cronin, in strong protest at anti-Iran accusations raised in the EU summit’s final statement. Ireland is the current rotating president of the European Union. During the meeting, an Iranian diplomat vehemently rejected the bloc’s accusations against Iran. He noted that the current insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz is the result of the U-S-Israeli military aggression, which was carried out with the overt and covert support of some European countries. The Iranian diplomat cited NATO secretary general’s remarks about the role played by Europe and NATO members in the aggression against Iran. He said the EU cannot cover up its complicity in American-Israeli crimes against Iranians, including the killing of children and women, by making ridiculous claims against Tehran. The diplomat noted that EU members, as supporters of Israel’s genocidal regime, lack any moral credibility to preach others about human rights. Iran's Foreign Ministry also summoned German Ambassador, Axel Dittmann, over the “repetition of baseless accusations by German authorities” against Tehran.
France anti-govt. protests
France has announced partial curfews in the capital, Paris, and other cities after weekend demonstrations over soaring prices degenerated into the worst street violence in recent years. According to French authorities, partial curfews have been enforced from Monday evening to Tuesday morning in a number of cities, including Paris, Lille and Lyon, to protect businesses. In Paris, a curfew was ordered from 11:00 pm local time, while demonstrations were banned from 8:00 pm. Prime Minister, Sebastien Lecornu, did not rule out imposing a state of emergency after the interior minister admitted police had lost control in some cities. France has been gripped by nationwide anti-government protests since September 17, over rising living costs and mounting economic pressures. The protests turned violent after security forces used excessive force against the demonstrators, with rights groups saying several teenagers suffered war-like injuries. At least three-thousand shops have been damaged, with the cost running into hundreds of millions of euros. Nationwide, more than 25-hundred people have been taken into custody since the weekend.
