US ‘defeat’ in war on Iran
Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps says the US has been defeated in the war against the country but does not have the courage to accept it. IRGC’s spokesman said the US has suffered a historical and humiliating defeat by strategic failure in projecting the foundations of its power. Brigadier general Hossein Mohebbi said the US has failed to protect its own bases, its allies, and energy supply via the Strait of Hormuz. Mohebbi said the US rather brought insecurity to the waterway and the countries that hosted its bases. The general stressed that the US also failed to maintain the intelligence and technology superiority it claimed. Mohebbi said all these point to the US losing its hegemony in the west Asia region.
Call for intl. action
Iran’s foreign ministry has expressed grave concern over the continued crimes committed by the Israeli regime against the Palestinians, calling on the international community to take serious and decisive action to stop the genocide. Iran’s foreign ministry said in a statement that the Israeli regime is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza and the occupied West Bank with the full support of the US and a number of countries claiming to defend human rights. It said that the Israeli regime’s widespread violations of UN resolutions and the use of Security Council vetoes to shield it from accountability highlight its role in undermining the UN’s credibility and standing. The statement, which was released ahead of the 81st annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, called for immediate action to stop the genocide in Gaza and the seizure of Palestinian lands.
US ICE shooting
US police clash with protesters after a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and injured a man in Austin, Texas. Protesters gathered at the scene in the hours after the shooting. Police responded to the protest, using tear gas to disperse the crowd. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Wilber Rafael Garces Perez. He is from Venezuela and is now in stable condition. The man suffered one gunshot wound in his torso during a brief foot pursuit in the Texan capital's north side shortly before 1 pm local time. His lawyer says the victim had no criminal history and had no final order to be removed from the country. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson says he was angry about the shooting, but was not surprised, given how ICE is doing its business these days. He called for the involvement of the local police in a clear-eyed investigation into the incident. Federal immigration agents have shot people in other cities this year, including in Houston, Minneapolis and Biddeford, Maine.
