Gaza docudrama 'The Voice of Hind Rajab' nominated for Golden Globe

The film is a reconstruction of the final, tragic hours of six-year-old Hind Rajab, a Palestinian girl killed by Israeli forces in Gaza in January 2024.

The Voice of Hind Rajab, a docudrama about Israel's killing of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl, has been nominated for the 2026 Golden Globe for 'Best non-English language film.'

The cinematic work directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania has already received critical acclaim, including winning the Venice Film Festival's Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize.

The film follows the true events leading up to the Hind's killing by Israeli forces on January 29, 2024.

The film, which has been selected as Tunisia’s official submission for the Oscars, is an unsettling reconstruction of the final tragic hours of Hind after being trapped in a car with her family members in Gaza.

It features real audio of a phone call made by the five-year-old to the Palestine Red Crescent after being the only survivor of an Israeli attack on her family's car in the besieged Palestinian territory.

Hind could be heard pleading to be rescued and remaining on the call for three hours before losing contact.

The ambulance crew was unable to get to her due to intense Israeli gunfire and their vehicle being targeted by Israeli forces.

Hind and two paramedics who tried to save her were killed, as were six of her family members.

Experts say the film creates a striking cinematic experience that captures silence, fear, and waiting, transforming the child’s voice into a universal symbol of innocence confronting violence.

"The voice of Hind is the voice of Gaza itself," Director Ben Hania said in her acceptance speech for the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

"A cry for rescue the entire world could hear, yet no one answered. Her voice will continue to echo until accountability is real and justice is served."

The killing of Hind Rajab has sparked international outrage against the Israeli genocidal war on the besieged Palestinian territory.

The Hind Rajab Foundation, which has been established in her honor, sues the Israeli regime’s crimes worldwide.

Since the Israeli regime launched its genocidal assault on Gaza on October 7, 2023, it has killed more than 70,000 Palestinians, including 21,000 children, and wounded 171,000 others.
