The United States is responsible for being an “enabler and coadjutor” of the genocide in Gaza and its extension into Lebanon, says a US-based academic, author and public speaker.

In an interview with the Press TV website, Michael Rectenwald, former distinguished fellow at Hillsdale College and former professor of Liberal Studies and Global Studies at New York University, said the US is the driving force behind the tragic events unfolding in Gaza and Lebanon.

At least 42,792 people have been killed and 100,412 others injured in the Israeli genocidal war on the besieged Gaza Strip since the events of October 7 last year, most of them children and women.

Death toll in Lebanon has also surged past 2,600 apart from over 12,000 others injured in the past month since the Israeli military launched its deadly onslaught against the Arab country.

Rectenwald said the Tel Aviv regime “would not be capable” of its genocidal aggression against Palestinians and Lebanese “without US military aid and funding.”

“Furthermore, the US political class, against the wishes of a majority of its constituents, has provided rhetorical, political, and propagandistic cover for Israel's ongoing massacres,” he said, describing the US as Israel’s “slave and bellicose bulldog.”

In a report last week, Brown University’s Costs of War project said Washington has spent at least $17.9 billion on military aid to the Israeli regime since it launched its war on Gaza in October 2023.

An additional $4.86 billion has gone into American military operations in the West Asia region in the past year, researchers noted, referring to the staggering costs of war in Gaza and now Lebanon.

“Israel is the number one recipient of US foreign aid and the rest are not even close. Part of this money is funneled back into the coffers of the US political class,” Rectenwald stated.

“The US political class is under the control of Israeli and US Zionists. We saw this demonstrated during (Israeli Premier Benjamin) Netanyahu's speech before the joint session of Congress, where he received 50-plus standing ovations, even after the ICJ condemned him as a genocidal war criminal. The US political class has been bought off.”

The US academic and author, who was also a Libertarian presidential candidate, slammed the likening of anti-Semitism to anti-Zionism and resolutions against it by the US political class.

On the upcoming US election and the future policies, Rectenwald said the choice is between two candidates “who have expressed their fealty to Israel and condemned its neighbors, especially Iran.”

“Both Harris and Trump will continue to support Israel's psychopathic genocidal rampages,” she said, referring to the fiercely pro-Israel stance exhibited by both US presidential candidates, Republican Donald Trump and Democratic Kamala Harris.

The US analyst further said the international community has “failed Palestinians miserably, putting on display the hypocrisy of the West and its blind eye toward Israel, no matter what atrocities it commits.”

“The only hope for the Palestinians is an international mercenary army of committed anti-genocidal forces. However, this will not form, because much of the fighting population in the West is under the hypnosis of Israeli propaganda. It's a crying shame,” he stated.
