President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran and Qatar have a mutual will to enhance the level of cooperation in various areas, including trade and transportation.

“We are seeking to develop relations with the Qatari government, and there is a mutual will between the two countries to enhance the level of cooperation,” Pezeshkian told a joint presser with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha on Wednesday.

“I hope that the negotiations between the Iranian delegation and Qatar will address all areas of transportation, culture, tourism, and health care, allowing us to make joint investments.”

Pezeshkian also touched on tensions in the region, saying the region can’t achieve development through war.

“The security of the region is the security of all Muslims. Since I was elected president, I have been striving for peace and tranquility. No country has achieved development through war,” he said.

The Qatari Emir said they support regional and international efforts to reduce tensions and protect peace and security in the region.

“In recent days, we have warned about increasing tensions in Lebanon. The occupying regime must stop its oppressive war on Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. Mediation is our strategic option.”

Sheikh Tamim said they will continue their mediation efforts aimed at stopping the genocidal campaign in Gaza and securing the release of the captives.

Speaking before his trip to Qatar, Pezeshkian said he pursued two goals during the visit: to boost economic, social, cultural, and investment cooperation with Qatar, and to discuss the current instability in the region and cooperation among Muslim nations to address the situation.

The two-day visit is taking place at the official invitation of the Emir of Qatar.

On Thursday, Pezeshkian will attend the 19th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) summit and deliver a speech there. He is also expected to meet with leaders and officials from participating countries at the summit.

Six cooperation deals signed

Before the presser, Iranian and Qatari officials signed six cooperation agreements.

These agreements cover various sectors including economic and commercial cooperation, cultural, educational, and sports initiatives.

Notable agreements include collaboration on the development of the Deir Port, health, welfare, and trade, a program for cultural cooperation until the end of 2026, and a program for sports cooperation until 2026.
