Iran’s para-Karate team crowned at 2024 Asian Championship

The Iranian team has claimed the top spot at the 3rd Asian Para-Karate Championship 2024 in China’s eastern city of Hangzhou after notching up five medals, including three golds.

The Iranian athletes won the championship title at the international Para-Karate competitions on Saturday by bagging three gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

Negar Farahani Vasheghani, Hafez Hafezi-Kia and Farzad Safari pocketed gold medals while Masoumeh Eiji and Rahim Gol-Mohammadi took away silver and bronze medals, respectively, to place the Iranian team on the first podium.

Farahani Vasheghani, the gold medalist, scored 33.6 points in the K22 class and outshined her opponent from Hong Kong with 30 points. Hafezi-Kia and Safari edged out their rivals and won with 32.9 and 41.2 points, respectively, in the K21 and K32 categories.

In a neck-and-neck competition, Eiji, with 34.6 points, was narrowly defeated by her Kazakhstani rival with 34.9 and settled for a silver.

In the K10-blind category, Gol-Mohammadi came in third after Japan and Saudi Arabia in the first round with 39.4 points, and in the second round with 41.9 points, he outperformed an opponent from Kazakhstan with 41.8 to bag the bronze medal.

The 3rd Asian Para-Karate Championship 2024 is underway in Hangzhou from September 20 to 22.
