Iran's giant automaker, Iran-Khodro, has unveiled a new car, dubbed Rira. The vehicle is deemed the first Iranian-made crossover model.

Sanctions are normally followed by dissatisfaction, dissent, demonstrations and ongoing tension, but in Iran they have been short-lived, mainly because the country has managed to provide essential goods despite severe sanctions.

Iran Khodro, the biggest automobile producer in the Middle East, has reactivated its assembly line for production of Samand sedans in Senegal.

The contract signed between the Ministry of Petroleum and Iran Khodro on Sunday to produce 45,000 bi-fuel cars signals Iran's expansion of its world's largest fleet of vehicles running on either petrol or natural gas.    

Residents in Tehran on Tuesday spotted an unusual sight as the first Iranian-made electric car drove through the congested streets of the megacity of some 12 million.

Iran's auto sector has started standing on its own feet after years of reliance on imported car kits which foreign companies stopped supplying when the US reimposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic in 2018.
