Calbuco volcano in Chile sends burst of ash & hot rock into air
The Calbuco volcano in southern Chile has erupted again following its twin blasts last week. A towering plume of grey smoke and ash rose from the crater. It prompted authorities to once again evacuate a 20-kilometer radius around the volcano. The volcano surprised residents of the Los Lagos region with two eruptions last Wednesday and Thursday after more than four decades of inactivity. Authorities evacuated thousands of people and declared a state of emergency after the eruptions.

Fears grow about possible 3rd Calbuco eruption
Southern Chile is bracing for a possible third volcanic eruption after the Calbuco volcano burst into life. Calbuco had its first eruption in over four decades on Wednesday and another on Thursday. But experts and officials have warned that more explosions could follow. Authorities have declared a state of emergency and evacuated a 21-kilometer radius around the volcano near the cities of Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt. The first two blasts sent ash and lava several kilometers high into the sky. Chile has around 500 volcanoes that are potentially active.
