Nigerian army troops attack residential area home to top Shia cleric Zakzaky
Nigerian army troops have attacked the residential area home to a top Shia cleric in the north of the country. According to eyewitness accounts, army troops have shot at local residents and guards who were trying to protect Ibrahim al-Zakzaky. Many people have been killed in the clashes which happened in the city of Zaria. An unknown number of mourners - marking the martyrdom anniversary of the eighth Shia Imam - have also been injured. Army officials accuse the mourners of provocation. Zakzaky’s followers however have denied the allegations, saying the attack was pre-planned.
